SKINARI
Skinari is the area in the North East corner of the island, with magnificent
coastal scenery and views across to Kefalonia. This part of the island is
comparatively undeveloped from a tourism point if view and because of its
beauty, it has attracted English, Swiss and German nationals to buy property
there, either as a permanent residence or as investment / holiday homes.
It is an exclusive and upmarket area and the villas which have been built,
either from new or by re building, old traditional houses and cottages, reflect
this, both in their style and price.
There are a number of excellent
fish tavernas along that part of
the coast, where you can follow
the time honoured Greek tradition
of going into the kitchens and
selecting the fish you want. There
is also a popular, well established
and English owned water sports
club, with its own restaurant and
bar. The club has a busy season
which it is now extending by providing
activity holidays, including painting
and photography, as well as alternative
type holidays, such as yoga courses.
The nearest village to the properties
in Skinari is Volimes –Upper
and Lower – about a ten to
fifteen minute drive away, depending
on the exact location of the property.
Both parts of the village have
a l range of shops and facilities
and there is a bus service to Zakynthos
town. There are also 2 small shops,
mini markets, at Megaloni, for
daily needs.
AMOUDI
Amoudi is a quiet, peaceful family resort, set amongst olive groves, on the
east coast of the island .A small country lane leads down to the beach, from
the main road which passes through the village and it then runs along the
coast before returning inland and continuing its meandering journey through
the olive groves. Amoudi is a small village with only a few small hotels,
apartments and tavernas. It is a place for those who want to relax and get
away from it all, although the busier resorts of Alykes and Alykana are only
some 3 to 4 kilometres away.
ZAKYNTHOS
TOWN
Zakynthos town, the islands capital, is about an hours drive away, approximately
40 kms. The town has a long Venetian history which is reflected in its architecture,
The island also has a strong cultural life. It is the birthplace of Solomos,
the Greek national poet, whose statue stands in the magnificent central square
of the town. The The square has cafes and ice cream parlous set amongst its
Venetian colonnades. The airport is about a ten minute drive outside the town
and there is a ferry terminal for car ferries to the mainland. The ferry takes
about an hour and it is then only half an hours drive, to the site of Ancient
Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games.

From April
to October there are direct charter
flights from nearly all UK regional
airports. The flights are about
3 – 3 ½ hours and
a further hour should be allowed
for the drive from the airport
to Skinari. Out of season flights
have to be made via Athens, with
Easyjet, BA or Olympic. It is often
quicker for people from the north
and midlands to use KLM from a
regional airport and change in
Amsterdam, than to travel to Heathrow,
Luton or Gatwick.
There are two domestic flights
per day from Athens to Zakynthos – flight
time 45 minutes. For those wishing
to drive to Zakynthos, from Athens
new road systems have reduced the
driving time to 3 to 3 ½ hours
to Kyllini on the west coast of
the Peloponese, from where there
is the ferry service to Zakynthos
town – time 45 minutes.
