The Rhodope Mountains is home to 3 ski resorts: Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo.

Bansko is situated in the Pirin Mountains. It is a relatively very new resort and very attracts the highest number of new property developments. Bansko is the lowest of the ski resorts, ranging between 1,100 and 2,600 metres. The resort enjoys 14 main ski runs.

Borovets is the largest and most popular of the ski resorts. Situated in the Rila Mountain, it lies at 1350 m above the sea level on the northern slopes of Rila Mountain among age-old pinewoods. It is easily accessible, being at a distance of 73 km from Sofia and Sofia international airport and 126 km from Plovdiv. Borovets has been developed into a modern ski resort of high class with luxury hotels, restaurants, discos, shops and a good choice of pistes and lifts.

The Borovetz ski school has more than 200 ski instructors, all of them fluent in different languages. Skiing classes come in 5 difficulty levels, from A to E - in groups or individually - 4 hours per day, 6 or 12 days. All course graduates receive skiing certificates.

Borovets enjoys 18 ski runs including 2 greens and 2 blacks.

Pamporovo is a modern ski resort in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains. Its landscape is dramatic - huge pine trees, covered in snow and magnificent scenery. The resort is popular among the foreign visitors and the sunniest of the Bulgarian mountain resorts offering snow throughout a long 120 day season. The skiing season starts from mid - December to mid - April. Pamporovo is situated on 1650 m above the sea level at the foot of peak Snejanka (1926 m). It is 260 km far from Sofia, 85 km from Plovdiv and 35 km from Narechen.

Pamporovo enjoys 7 main runs, 1 green, 2 blue, 2 red and 2 black

The ski school is known internationally for its experienced instructors.

The closest international airport to this region is near the capital Sofia. Pernik is located 30 km South-West from Sofia and provides convenient road and rail connections to Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Kulata and Kyustendil. Bus and train networks are extensive around all of the regions and relatively cheap.

Sofia has the largest of 4 international airports in Bulgaria. In addition to Bulgarian Air, many of the major carriers fly to Sofia including British Airways, Air France, Alitalia, KLM, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Malev and Olympic Airways. Flights can be found from over 20 UK airports including Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, City Airport, Bristol, Southampton, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dublin and Belfast.
