About
Porto
|
 |
 |
| |
Since
the Middle Ages, Porto established
important commercial relations
with England and soon there was
an English community in the city.
Porto, found within the coastal
region of Minho, is the main city
of northern Portugal with an international
airport and at the same time the
feeling of a riverside community.
The North’s most important
city also lent its name to the
famous wine and to Portugal. Don’t
miss the the area on the waterside,
the ‘zona ribeirinha’and
its bustling downtown.
Along the coastline north of Porto
runs a coastal road linking Vila
do Conde to Valença where
visitors
can reach beautiful beaches, summer
resorts and enchanting villages,
such as Caminha and Vila Nova de
Cerveira. Inland, one must visit
the huge national park area covering
the mountains of Peneda, Soajo
and Gerês. . For golf enthusiasts,
the central and northern region
also holds about 28 courses, with
the majority concentrated around
Lisbon.
