Demand
for property in the Western Loire
Valley is highest in the departments
of Loire-Atlantique and Vendee
which both offer wide, clean stretches
of sandy beaches. The coastal
departments are most popular with
overseas
buyers but continue to maintain
their strong French identity. Nantes
and La Roche-Sur-Yon are both popular
tourist destinations, particularly
with young families. Maine-et-Loire,
Mayenne and Sarthe are all inland
departments and predominantly agricultural.
Properties in these departments
still provide excellent ‘value
for money’. Saumur and Angers,
in particular, maintain strong
rental markets with their high
volume of traditional gites for
sale.
The property market in Val de
la Loire is most buoyant in the
departments of Cher, Eure-et-Loir
and Loire-et-Cher. Each department
also offers an active rental market.
Tours and Bourges are the most
popular destination. Indre, Indre-et-Loire
and Loiret
offer the most affordable house
prices. For the best investment,
consider Orleans which enjoys healthy
tourism and accordingly, excellent
rental returns.
The Loire Valley is a high producer
of quality French wines. It has
a large number of different grape
varieties, the most famous of which
are:
- Muscadet – produced
in western Loire, making dry
white wines
- Chenin Blanc - which dominates
the Middle Loire, with red
wines made from Cabernet Franc
- Sauvignon Blanc – grown
in Upper Loire. Reds are made
from
the Pinot Noir
The climate in the Loire Valley
is temperate. During the summer,
daytime temperatures average between
70-80° F. Annual rainfall is
some of the lowest in France.
