About Languedoc-Roussillon
 

Languedoc-Roussillon comprises 4 departments - Aude, Gard, Herault, Lozere & Pyrenees-Orientales. The capital is Montpellier.

  • Aude is a tranquil hinterland, popular for sailing. It also possesses beaches with fine sand ideal for family holidays.
  • Gard is dominated by its capital of Nimes, the city with the highest recorded temperature in France. Nimes is over 2,000 years old and accordingly provides a Roman atmosphere and feel.

  • Lozere is a walkers paradise. Dominated by the heights of Mont Lozere and the Cevennes hills, it offers magnificent Gorges amidst a rich variety of natural landscapes. Lozere is a sparsely populated department with under 100,000 inhabitants.
  • Pyrenees-Orientales provides a wide cross-section of activities. Skiing is available in the Pyrenees alongside horse-riding or hiking. The Pyrenees gentle slopes are the perfect place to enjoy ski mountaineering and cross-country skiing for the first time.
HOW TO GET THERE

The best way to travel to Languedoc-Roussillon is by air to Montpellier or Perpignan airports. Flighst can be found from over 20 UK airports. In addition, discount airline Ryanair flies from London Stansted to Montpellier and Perpignan or from London Stansted and Luton to Nimes.

 
CLIMATE
Languedoc-Roussillon is typically Mediterranean - hot dry summers, rain in winter with moderate springs and autumns. It is the hottest region in France, with summer temperatures frequently over 80 °F (30 °C +).
