Laguna
de Apoyo is an unspoiled
crater lake with crystal clear
water, breathtaking views and
rich biodiversity. It
is a magical place located at
the heart of Nicaragua’s
premier tourist region and only
5 miles from the colonial city
of Granada. The lake itself and
the surrounding verdant slopes
are maintained by Nicaragua’s
environmental agency, Marena,
as a protected area and have
been proposed as a World
Heritage site. The area
has abundant natural fauna and
flora including howler and white
faced monkeys, sloth, iguanas,
armadillos, blue jays, toucans
and a rich aquatic life including
an endemic fish species as well
as old growth trees, some over100
years old. Investors are attracted
to the spring
like climate year round,
the sweeping views as well as
the numerous recreation possibilities
including sailing, scuba diving,
paragliding and of course swimming
in the warm waters. An increasing
number of commercial investors
are considering the opportunities
of using the therapeutic quality
of the mineralized thermal water
of the lake to develop medical
spas and treatment centres.
Traditionally a coffee growing
area because of its rich soils
and elevation, Mombacho
is a forested mountain (1,345m)
overlooking Granada, Zapatera and
Lake Nicaragua. The summit
of Mombacho is a protected cloud
forest boasting an incredibly rich
700 hectares of biodiversity. Lower
down the property is privately
owned and be-ginning to be explored
by investors seeking a private
escape and an unspoiled environment
but at the same time benefiting
from the proximity to Granada and
the market town of Masaya.
Average temperatures during the
day range from 26-29ºC (79-85ºF)
peaking in April and May. |
