About
East Slovakia

Northeast
Slovakia is sometimes known as
the most remote and least touristed
part of the country. The capital
of the Slovak Saris region and
a cultural centre for the Rusyn
(Ruthenian) minority, Presov has
a split personality reminding one
of its varied ethnic history. Today
it is the third largest city behind
Bratislava and Kosice and a youthfully
vibrant town partly due to the
university. Presov, like the region,
is a surprisingly beautiful place
with a charming Old Town and two
easily accessible castle ruins.
Svidnik’s proximity to the
Dukla Pass, the Valley of Death,
several wooden churches and the
fading Rusyn culture make it one
of the top Slovak destinations.
Kremenec, where the Polish, Slovak
and Ukraine borders meet is the
furthest east you can go with a
stone monument marking the borders
meeting in Poloniny National Park.
Down in the Southeast corner
of Slovakia, home to the its second
largest city of Kosice and to central
Europe’s grandest Gothic
church outside Prague. In the small
villages dotting the landscape
from Trebisov to the Hungarian
border, the sweet Tokaj wine is
produced competing with the Hungarians
for worldwide popularity.
Places of interest: Slovensky
Raj, Dobsina Ice Cave , Kosice,
Presov, Bardejov, Bardejovske Kupele,
Levoca.
