Auvergne is one of the most remote and least known
regions in the heart of France. It encompasses most
of the northern part of the Massif Central and borders
Languedoc-Roussillon and the Midi-Pyrenees to the south.
The region’s exceptional
landscape of lakes,
rivers, forests, non-active volcanoes and its two large
spectacular national parks is almost entirely unspoiled.
While the deep forests and rugged terrain make for
excellent walking and mountain biking during summer
months, they offer excellent skiing, particularly cross-country,
throughout the winter. Added to this, the ancient volcanoes
have created ten thermal spa areas, five of which are
among the leading thermal spa
resorts in France.
