Andros is the most northerly of the Cyclades islands and is blessed by not having an airport as a result of which is has retained much of its traditional charm and character. Working donkeys can still be seen and in many villages the original footpaths, just one donkey wide, still exist. Andros is one island where the car is not always king.
It is a lush green island with attractive beaches and mountains providing a paradise for walkers and mountain bikers. Green valleys and gorges with tumbling streams, run down to the coast providing inspiration for the artist and the writer. It is renowned for its soft sandy beaches, as well as rocky ones which offer an ideal location for the fishing enthusiast.
Ferries for Andros depart on a regular basis from Rafina on the mainland, which is a 30 minute drive from Athens International Airport. The crossing to Gavrio, the main port of Andros, which is 7kms from Batsi, takes two hours or 1 hr.15 mins on the high speed ferry.
