Evia is the second largest of the Greek islands and has the advantage that it is close to the mainland from where there are a number of regular ferry services and it is also connected to the mainland at Halkidi by a road bridge. Evia does not have its own airport and this has allowed it maintain its traditional character without suffering the depredations of modern package tourism. Tourists come to Evia to enjoy the many natural beauties of the island, to walk, cycle, relax and to swim from the many uncrowded bays and beaches which adorn the island. Evia holds many attractions for the birdwatcher, those interested in flora and fauna, photography and painting, as well as those who want to enjoy the quality of life which no longer exists on many of the busier islands.

Koskina is one of those traditional Greek villages which it is easy to miss if you do not know it is there. Only 5 minutes off the main north south highway, it is a haven of peace and quiet. Civilisation has however not quite passed it by. It has 3 tavernas, with wi fi and is popular with locals as well as with those who are prepared to travel to find good Greek food at village prices. There is also a mini market in the square for every day shopping requirements. The nearby town of Aliveri has supermarkets and a full range of shopping facilities.

In typical Greek style there is a daily deliver to the village of fresh bread and fresh, locally caught fish. There is also a daily direct bus service to Athens. The ferry terminal at Styra from where there are regular daily ferry services to Agia Marina on the mainland is just over 30 minutes away. From Agia Marina it is some 45 minutes to Athens airport.

Another major attraction on the doorstep of the village is Lake Distos a protected nature reserve and bird sanctuary. The nearest beaches on the east side of the island are quiet, secluded and beautiful. The coastline and mountains provide majestic scenery. In springtime the whole area is carpeted with a multitude of brightly coloured flowers.
