Raptai is on the eastern side of the island and is set on gentle slopes with views across olive groves and farmland down to the sea. Within a 10 minute drive of the village there are three excellent sandy beaches, which are not crowded even in the height of summer. The nearest shops are 5 minutes away in nearby Mesahora, whilst at Styra which is 15 minutes away, there is a wider range of shopping facilities.

Evia, the second largest of the Greek islands, does not have an airport but it is still one of the most accessible of Greek islands. The ferry terminal at Agia Marina is only an hours drive from Athens International airport and the crossing from the mainland to the ferry terminal at Styra takes 45 minutes. Evia has the advantage that it is an island which is accessible throughout the year. There are four ferry routes and also a bridge at Halkida. linking the island to the mainland and giving fast acces to Athens airport via the north- south and airport motorways.

This central part of Evia with its villages and hamlets is the narrowest part of the island and it is only a 20 minute drive from west coast to east coast. It is a region which is completely unspoilt. It has stunning mountain and coastal scenery dotted with small attractive bays and is popular with walkers, cyclists and photographers. The villages are still working villages with agriculture the main occupation.
