THERE & GETTING ABOUT
Over 20 UK airports offers flight to Malta from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester,
Birmingham and Glasgow. The national network of buses covers almost every part
of the Islands. Many ferries exist to enable easy Island-hopping between Malta,
Gozo and Comino.
LANGUAGE
The official languages are Maltese and English.
CURRENCY & CREDIT CARDS
The official currency is the Maltese Lira(Lm), referred to as the Maltese pound.
Cards including Access, American Express, Carte Blanche, Diners Club International,
Mastercard and Visa are commonly accepted. Banks, (ATMs) and exchange bureaux
are found all over the Islands. Many hotels, shops and restaurants accept
foreign currency.
VISA REQUIREMENTS
UK and US Residents do not require a VISA to travel to Malta.
HEALTH CARE
Malta has a modern health service and reciprocal health agreements exist with
Australia and the United Kingdom enabling an entitlement to use medical and
hospital services (if period of stay is under one month).
THE 'BRITISH FEEL'
Malta was part of the British Empire for over 150 years – accordingly
aspects of the British culture remain including:
- English is widely spoken
- Old-fashioned, red-painted, British letter and
phone boxes are commonplace
- Cars drive on the left
