The State Protocol Administration, the main player on the Romanian real estate market, announced it would put up for sale several famous buildings. The Administration decided to sell the Triumf Hotel (15,000 sq m) and Floreasca Club (16,000 sq m) in Bucharest as these units are reported to have received purchase offers, according to managing director Adrian Dumitru. The Administration plans to put up for auction another four state-owned properties in the provinces by year-end.
One of these properties includes the Free Press House, the former Scanteia House in northern Bucharest, the largest office building in Romania. The Free Press House which was built between 1952 and 1957 and has an 80,000 sq m area to let, includes the important dailies, famous publishing houses and a TV channel. The tenants are supposed to receive the first option to buy.
The Administration owns other properties too, such as Victoria Palace (the Government's headquarters), Snagov Palace, Stirbei Palace and the Palace Hall in Bucharest. Some of the properties cannot be sold and others will be given to former owners.
Data from the Official Gazette estimates that the government is estimated to own properties worth 8,499 billion lei (242 million euros).
